Start Rite Footwear Is the Right Start for Kids

Every child deserves a good start in life. This includes mastering the ability to roll, crawl, and stand. After your child start walking, it's time to start buying children's shoes. While several brands of children's shoes are available, one of the best choices is Start Rite.

Although many footwear companies have a long history, Start Rite's has one of the longest ones. Its history dates back to 1972. That's when the modern shoemaking business started in Norwich, UK. In fact, it's still the location of Start Rite's headquarters today.

A leatherworker named James Smith is responsible for inventing several innovations that revolutionised the shoe industry. Smith was the first shoemaker to offer ready-to-wear footwear to a large group of potential customers. This revolutionized the shoe industry, including footwear for children.

Throughout its history, Start Rite provided the shoe industry with several other innovations. During the 1800s, Charles Winter became the first shoemaker to produce footwear via a sewing machine. James Southall, the grandson of Charles Winter, later developed children's shoes that were distinctly different from those designed for adults. The focus was particularly on the goal of designing shoes to limit the damage to children's feet during their day-to-day lives.

In the early 1920s, a shoe retailer first used the name "Start Rite." By the 1940s, the demand for Start Rite shoes was so high that the number of units issued to retailers was limited. Then approximately a decade later (in 1952) start rite footwear was limited to children's shoes. During this era, the company introduced several innovations in the world of children's footwear. That included shoes that complemented the shape of children's feet, and a structure that aided in maintaining a child's growth and balance. Three years later, Queen Elizabeth granted Start Rite with the Royal Warrant.

By the mid-1960s, the company had become so lucrative that the Southall family decided to register "Start Rite" as a trademark. This marked the birth of the company's modern era. From 1989-2003, the company received its second Royal Warrant. Amazingly, the UK's Royal family has worn more than 1,500 pairs of shoes from Start Rite!

Throughout the 1990s, Start Rite footwear continued to be an innovator in the world of children's footwear. In the late 1997s, they introduced shoes that they had designed for young grade-school children. Furthermore, the company introduced new lines of shoes that provided parents with more stylish options.

Since the turn of the 21st century, the company has continued to manufacture state-of-the-art shoes for children. It continues to meet the footwear needs of children. The company's shoes are now available in more than 400 retailers throughout the UK and worldwide. For example, they became the first brand of children's fitted footwear to offer its shoes online. The company strives to remain a leader in the world of children's footwear.

Parents want their children to start life on the right foot. One way to help achieve that goal is through quality footwear from Start Rite. It's the right choice for your children's start in life!

Foot Care Promoted by Start Rite - The Brand Who Practically Invented the Modern Shoe

Start-rite shoes are a trusted household name, with expertise in caring for feet earned over a 200 year period. They were established in Norwich, England in 1792 by James Smith and have grown to be the huge company we know today, whilst taking care not to lose their particular standards of excellence which have made them such a success.

It was Smith who invented ready-to-wear shoes, as up until then all shoes had been completely created on a made to measure basis. He also set up the first shoe factory for his business idea and became so successful at making shoes in his own unique way that he formed his own shoe making empire, with his heirs taking the reins in 1921.

The company were presented with a Royal Warrant in 1955 by Queen Elizabeth, for supplying footwear for the royal children with Start Rite Kids Shoes and the Royals still choose to buy Start Rites Shoes to this very day.

Start Rite Kids Shoes are considered to be something of an institution. They are beautifully made in the tradition of James Smith's exquisitely made footwear, as he took great care to use the finest materials and execute his designs to the best standard in the early days of the brand. However, Start Rite is also renowned for being committed to caring for kids' foot healthcare, which is an important issue that is often overlooked.

The business is completely thorough in its research in this area and even provides advice on their website. Apparently, badly fitting children's shoes can cause problems for them as adults later on in life and as younger feet are made of soft cartilage and bones don't fully develop for 18 years, it is imperative that children's shoes are properly fitted and well made to ensure good foot health. This is one of the things the company feel very passionately about.

Start Rite boots are another classic. They have been refined over the last couple of hundred years to achieve the sturdy, comfortable and well fitting result that is so popular today. Little girls and boys alike love the feel of a proper grownups boot combined with fun designs and mum and dad love their Start Rite boots too! These are definitely a shoe makers for life taking care of little ones up until they are grown ups and then they can still rely on the company to take care of their feet.

Start Rite Shoes - Every Kid's Ideal Choice

There is a lot to think about when purchasing children's shoes. Incorrect fitting, inappropriate methods of fastening, wrong material in their manufacture, flexibility in the wrong spot and improper sole shape can cause permanent damage to little, still developing feet. Start Rite Shoes offer a selection of shoes for babies, boys and girls and are bound to have one perfect for your little loved one. They truly are fit for a prince or princess as the English Royal family have and continue to purchase shoes from them.

A child's shoe should be fastened to the foot using either buckles or laces. Using other means reduces the level of support that is necessary in a foot so young. Needless to say that Start Rite Shoes, being in operation since 1792, and knowing all there is to shoes, have put this into practice. While you can still purchase court-like shoes and ones with adjustable straps, they will offer a buckle or lace alternative.

A minor's foot is still developing until they are approximately six years old. Before this they have unhardened bone and the muscles, tendons and ligaments can be stretched effortlessly. Hence their shoes must be made from leather as it takes the shape of the foot, and does not hinder its growth in any way. Again Start Rite shoes do not compromise on quality, ensuring that styles are made from smooth, patent or suede leather with some having the choice of more than one type.

The back of the shoe must be enclosed and cup the heel allowing the foot to fit squarely in position. This will prevent shoe deformation and hence poor fit in future wears of the shoe. The toe of the shoe must be rounded or square, not pointy, to allow the toes to move. The sole must be flexible near the toe to compensate for movement but at the same time be straight in shape. All these are distinctly obvious in Start Rite Shoes.

Start Rite Shoes come in colours that will suit any outfit. While not an extensive array, they do come in brown, black, taupe, white, smog, gray, navy and pink. Not all styles are available in all colours or leather type but this limitation can be beneficial, as you will not have the youngster deliberating over colour choice. It also takes the emphasis away from being a fashion accessory and puts the focus on their importance as a foot protector.

Similarly they also have a limited selection of styles but what they supply are of exceptional standard. You can have more open shoes for the hotter seasons and more enclosed boot like or formal shoes for the colder months.

Over the years the true reason as to why we wear shoes has become lost. It seems that they are a fashion must at any age. A shoe has the functions of keeping the wearer's foot clean and protecting them from sharp objects. Start Rite Shoes have never lost sight of this idea and will continue to provide functional, practical and safe shoes to youngsters for many years to come.
