If you plan on exercising soon there are a few things you should thing about.

What sort of exercise do you want to do, will it be for stretching of aerobic?

I came across an interesting book the other day, it's a form of Tibetan exercise, I would like to tell you a bit about it.

It's called the '5 Tibetan Rites' and it's somewhat different to what most people are used to when it comes to exercise. Nonetheless there is nothing to lose by checking something out right?

People are claiming miraculous results just after 2 weeks, that's not bad in any ones mind. It's said that it also helps you get the right mindset about exercising which will be very beneficial for a lot of people.

It also talks about rejuvenating your energy levels, this is great in todays society when a majority of people are complaining about low energy levels.

Once only the monks of a secret Monastery knew of these fabulous exercises, until a Colonel from the British army found it and they taught him the hidden mysteries of this phenomenal exercise program.

A very in-depth book, all the original pictures are included in this priceless manuscript. You'll be shown exactly how to do these exercises which will bring you amazing health and well-being.

Like the 'eye of revelation' for 25 centuries only men had access to this one exercise. Now it has been revealed that women can gain a whole lot of benefits from this exercise, making it worthwhile to both men and women. This in itself has to be a blessing for all concerned about their health and want to do something about it.

In the chapter about 'The Seven Psychic Vortexes' you'll learn how you can energize certain areas of your body that, according to the Tibetan monks, cause fatigue, disease, and age when they're allowed to go stale. And those who don't practice the rejuvenation rites have very stale vortexes!

Learn what the 'Vortex's' are all about, you'll be amazed at what these are all about, but wait till you see some of the testimonies, you'll be dying to get started to a new YOU.

Book Review - Peter Kelder's "The Five Tibetan Rites"

Peter Kelder wrote a book in the 1980s about the secrets he learned from Tibetan monks. This book that he wrote tells of their ancient secrets about the fountain of youth. He narrated his experiences and also shared the skills he acquired so that many people will also learn about these secrets. This book was called "The Five Tibetan Rites" and does not only share the secrets on how to look young but also offers to give much more than that including an inner sense of peace. Other techniques will also help people get a more rejuvenating sleep. It also offers to share secrets on how to get the most out of your day.

In the book, a comprehensive guide to chakras is discussed. Kelder informs the reader how the different chakras work to help the various systems in the body. He explains what a chakra does to help a person look younger and also how it can help to achieve a better quality of life.

The book also includes the five (5) Tibetan rites that Kelder has learned. First he says to check with a doctor should you decide to begin the exercise program to make sure that you are in shape to embark on the program. The book shows clear pictures of the techniques to be carried out. A video is also available which shows the different steps of the exercise.

A second book is also available which offers more details on the basic techniques. It also presents other ways of doing the techniques. To help achieve many benefits from the techniques, warm-up exercises have also been included. The Tibetan secret about the ancient fountain of youth can help a person look younger. It can also help in achieving a more productive life. It has been known to Tibetan monks for many centuries and now that the secret is in the open it can be yours too. I would recommend the book to anyone who is interested in learning about this part of Tibetan culture.

Book Review of John Calvin's "On Shunning the Unlawful Rites of the Ungodly" (Against False Worship)

"On Shunning the Unlawful Rites of the Ungodly," John Calvin, Dallas: Protestant Heritage Press, 1996. 64 pages. Softcover.

Occasionally one hears comments among Reformed church members which lead us to question whether the Roman Catholic Church is really as bad as our confessions make it out to be, or at least, whether the Roman Catholic Church has changed for the better since the time of the Great Reformation. Some university students may take ethics courses from Romanist priests or nuns where their knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church from the confessions and church history is put into question. Others may come into contact with Roman Catholic Church members in their daily work or through involvement with pro-life organizations. Here too conversations may reveal that our knowledge and criticisms of Rome are not as strong as we once thought they were. We therefore become softer in our attitude towards the Papal Church. Besides all this, aren't "Evangelicals and Catholics Together" overcoming their differences and working side-by-side now?

I dare say that we have been gravely deceived if we think that the Roman Catholic Church as an institution has changed substantially since the 16th century. Recently I had the opportunity to observe a Roman Catholic mass on television and what I saw taking place there was the very same accursed idolatry spoken of in our Heidelberg Catechism. Moreover, as I read John Calvin's little booklet, it was as if I was reading a commentary and description of what I had observed. The false Roman Church of Calvin's day is the false Roman Church of our day.

Though written so many hundreds of years ago, this small work by the powerful Geneva Reformer contains much of value for us. Calvin wrote it to persuade a friend to leave the Roman Catholic fold. His friend had written to him and asked whether it was possible to remain a member of the false church while inwardly being of Reformed convictions. At that time, there was a large group of people in Reformation Europe, referred to as Nicodemites (after the Pharisee Nicodemus of John 3), who were in prestigious positions, and for whom conversion to the Reformed faith would mean disaster in terms of social consequences. Such people could lose their family, their incomes, and even possibly their lives. It was one of these Nicodemites who had written to Calvin wondering what he should do. The question is phrased this way in the Translator's Introduction: "Is it lawful for a person who has renounced Popery in his heart to conform outwardly to its rites, for the purpose of avoiding persecution, or for any other imaginable cause?"

In the 64 pages of this minute tome, Calvin gives his reasons why his correspondent should remove himself immediately from fellowship with the Roman Church. Calvin's arguments are completely founded on Scriptural grounds, as we would expect. He outlines why the Roman Catholic Church is a false church and why true Christians can have nothing to do with the blasphemies and idolatries found within. Even being in the presence of the mass can give the appearance to others of conformity to sin against the second commandment. Calvin describes Roman Catholic worship and the Mass and argues "that those only preserve the holy religion of God who profane it by no defilements of unhallowed superstitions, and that those violate, pollute, and lacerate it, who mix it up with impure and impious rites" (pp.17-18).

Readers at this point may be wondering to themselves if such a book is valuable only as an historical artifact or of interest only to theologians. Certainly there is meat here for historians and theologians, but also others may benefit from this work. This book is immensely relevant for our modern times and two factors in particular impel my hearty recommendation. First, Calvin lays out quite clearly the Reformation principle of worship (cf. Heidelberg Catechism QA 96). In a time when so many do not understand worship and the Biblical principles which should guide it, Calvin is calling us back home. Second, the old Genevan applies the Reformation principle of worship to the Roman Catholic Church and shows us clearly why we can have no fellowship with a false church which has not repented of its blasphemy and idolatry in the last 500 years.

Calvin is sometimes known as a fiery polemicist whose wrath often overtook his reason. However, this little booklet, like all of Calvin's letters, reflects Calvin's pastoral spirit. Certainly one can detect Calvin's animosity towards the Godless foolishness of Romanism, but fondness for his correspondent shines through clearly. Modern-day readers will learn to appreciate the gentler, human side of John Calvin.

Protestant Heritage Press deserves our commendation for their reprint of this booklet. It is printed attractively and has been edited for easier reading. Comparing with the edition found in Volume 3 of Calvin's "Tracts and Treatises" (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1958), this booklet has headings, subheadings, improved punctuation and grammar, and an informative Translator's Introduction. An improvement has definitely been made which ensures that Calvin will not wither away under the pretext of unintelligibility. Even three years short of a new millennium, Calvin's voice can be heard loud and clear. We can only be enriched if we strive to listen closer to the words of this saint.

"Equal Rites" by Terry Pratchett - Book Review

This is the Discworld, supported by four giant elephants that stand on the back of the Great A'Tuin - a turtle, ten thousand miles long, making his (or her) way through space. This is a world where anything is possible. And on this world everyone knows what it means when an eighth son of an eighth son is born. That's when you have a wizard in your family.

And so a wizard's staff is passed on to a particular newborn. Except that this eighth son of an eighth son is actually a girl. And everyone knows that girls can't be wizards...

It's a lucky thing for the family that Granny Weatherwax is around, keeping a close eye on Esk and her staff. When the girl grows up and the magic is finding a way out, Granny decides to take the girl under her wing and teach her the witching. However, there are differences between witches and wizards, and for good reason. There comes a time when a girl must find her destiny, and that destiny lies in Ankh-Morpork, the home of the Unseen University, the place where wizards learn to be, well, wizards.

But just because you have a staff and just because you have power does not mean that you will get accepted. Girls are girls, and ancient views are not easily changed. Until the time comes when you need to stand up for yourself and show that tradition is not always correct, just because that's how things were always done...

"Equal Rites" is the story of a girl on a mission, a girl going against all odds to find out about herself and to claim her rightful place. It's also a story about tradition and how resistant people can be to change. And it's a story about respect, for yourself and for others.

That sounds very serious, so I must not forget to mention that the book is funny and generally quite light-hearted. Terry Pratchett is a creative, inventive author and a delightful storyteller. No matter what mood you are in when you start reading this book, you will soon find yourself smiling.

Pratchett has a way of bringing characters to life. His insights into human nature reflect the silliness in us all. Even the darker, more serious aspects we are all familiar with do have a place on the Discworld and are given a humorous spin.

I would recommend this book to everyone, young and old.

According to the author's bio, Terry Pratchett lives behind a keyboard in Wiltshire and says he 'doesn't want to get a life, because it feels as though he's trying to lead three already'. He was appointed OBE in 1998 and his first Discworld novel for children, "The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents", was awarded the 2001 Carnegie Medal.

"Equal Rites" was published by HarperTorch, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. The ISBN is 0-06-102069-9.

The Rite Movie Review - 'The Rite' Goes Slightly Wrong

Think exorcism and you just can't look beyond William Friedkin's The Exorcist. To imagine any other film that will come remotely close to the classic is an uphill task but having said that Mikael Hafstrom's The Rite does manage to stand a little bit of ground as far as films on exorcism go.

The Rite Plot

Michael Kovak (Colin O'Donoghue) can either run the family business by becoming an undertaker or he can become a priest for those are the only two options available to a Kovak. He joins the seminary and shows great promise but gives up just before his final vows for he loses his faith. In order to help him overcome his doubts Father Matthew (Toby Jones) sends him to the Vatican to undertake an exorcist training program. A man of science Michael has great problems in accepting the church's methods but agrees to meet up with Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins) when his professor sees him struggling in class. Lucas is an unorthodoxly orthodox and much like Michael had a phase where he didn't believe. Michael observes Lucas as he deals with his possessed patients and soon becomes a pawn in the hands of the devil who talks to him through Lucas' patients. While in the Vatican Michael's father, Istvan (Rutger Hauer) dies and he has to overcome the demons of not only his past but also help save Lucas from going over to the other side.

Based on true events The Rite is neatly divided into two parts one where it questions traditionalism and rationality and the other where it becomes a nuts and bolts exorcism film where faith will ultimately triumph. Directed by Swede Mikael Hafstrom's, The Rite is blessed with a wonderful atmosphere thanks to cinematographer Ben Davis, that transports you right into the heart of the fight between good and evil but sadly with each step forward the film plummets. Written by Michael Petroni The Rite takes a long look at faith and tests that one has to undergo in order to preserve it or even discover it but after by the end the entire thing looks highly orchestrated.

To its credit The Rite tries to be more than a horror film that it might be though of. There is a substantial amount of talk that helps it rise above many films post The Exorcist that have the eternal fight for faith.

Anthony Hopkins acting in The Rite

Anthony Hopkins brings a certain degree of panache to Father Lucas and does his level best to avoid the trappings of such a character. He, nevertheless, plays Lucas like a cool old hand who has seen it all and knows everything will eventually fall into its right order. The thing with Hopkins is that he knows he's a star and so even if he tries to act it looks like he is 'playing' a character. But there are places in the film where he shows traces of yesteryear's when he managed to convince you of the character he played and not himself. This is best seen where his Lucas is losing it and slaps a young girl when she asks the priest to bless her doll. Toby Jones as Kovak's senior is fun and as usual it's great to see Rutger Hauer in any form or role. Colin O'Donoghue brings enough Yang to counter Hopkin's Ying and there's a decent camaraderie between the two but the last twenty odd minutes of the film fails in almost all departments.

Final Words about The Rite

Could the film have been any different? Yes and no. Towards the end as Lucas becomes the Devil's latest victim and it's up to Kovak, the non-believer, to save his mentor's soul everything becomes highly predictable. The climax is as straight as any film on exorcism but that's not the thing that will trouble you the most. The biggest problem with The Rite is that it ends up looking like a highly contrived endeavor to make Kovak believe in god. For all it's eerie mood in the beginning The Rite finishes up being a highly unbelievable exercise where the good and the evil and just about everyone will conspire to go to unimaginable lengths in order to help Kovak find his faith.

The Rite RATING: 2.5 / 5

The Rite Genre: Horror / Drama

The Rite Star Cast: Anthony Hopkins, Colin O Donoghue, Rutger Hauer, Toby Jones

The Rite Director(s): Mikael Hafstrom

The Rite Certification: A

Product Review - The New Swede-O Thermoskin Heel-Rite For Plantar Fasciitis

The plantar fascia is a band of fibrous tissue that originates on the inner portion of the heel bone and fans out under the arch to the balls of the feet and inserts into the toes. It forms the longitudinal arch of the foot and functions as a shock-absorber when you walk or run. Irritation or inflammation of the plantar fascia occurs primarily at its attachment to the heel bone or calcaneus.

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis usually occur in the morning when the patient gets out of bed. The pain usually subsides after a couple of minutes, but returns with prolonged sitting. This is due to a tightening or contracture of the plantar fascia at rest. When standing the fascia stretches "suddenly" causing pain at the insertion. As the fascia "stretches out", the pain subsides. If untreated, the pain worsens and increases in duration. Plantar fasciitis is further aggravated by poor fitting shoes, barefoot ambulation, and aggressive sports activities.

Treatment for plantar fasciitis is usually conservative in nature. Rest, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, padding, alternative shoe gear, arch supports, orthotics, stretching exercises usually improve the condition. Cortisone injections are sometimes necessary to reduce severe pain, and if conservative treatment and time have not improved the condition, surgery is sometimes indicated.

Arch supports and orthotics (custom made arch supports) are a very popular treatment modality among Podiatrists, Chiropractors and Therapists and have proven very successful in controlling abnormal gait, excessive pronation and support of the plantar fascia. In many instances, these devices cannot be worn due to shoegear restrictions. Since most of the damage and irritation of the plantar fascia occurs during the day, with prolonged standing, walking and physical activity, an alternative to orthotics and arch supports was limited. Until Swede-O developed a unique and supportive brace called The Heel-Rite.

The Heel-Rite is a combination ankle brace and arch support. The patented Heel-Rite provides effective daytime treatment for Plantar Fasciitis. The Heel-Rite is comfortable to wear and low profile in design.

The brace contains a support strap that lifts the arch and provide compression to the plantar fascia and stabilization of the longitudinal arch.

Another unique feature of the Heel-Rite is the brace material. Swede-O utilizes a Thermoskin Thermal fabric that has been clinically proven to increase subcutaneous skin temperature 2-3°F for optimal level of heat therapy. Thermoskin's patented Trioxon® lining creates a micro-climate that maintains elevated skin temperature while still allowing the skin to ventilate for long-term user comfort. The spiral structure of the Trioxon lining lifts moisture away from the skin and traps air within the lining to help prevent excessive perspiration.

This combination of ankle and foot stability, heat therapy, and arch support with compression makes this a great alternative to bulky arch supports and orthotic inserts. The Heel-Rite fits into most shoes and is very adjustable, coming in just two sizes. It is universal for left or right ankles.

It is always recommended that you consult with your treating doctor to determine the cause of your orthopedic condition and the appropriate treatment.
